What are Mini Excavators used for?
Mini excavators (also known as compact excavators or mini diggers) are generally used in construction, and are incredibly versatile machines. The functionality of the excavator can be flexible, and depends on the attachment used. Some examples include using a hammer for breaking up concrete, to digging holes for landscape work.
What are the main components of a Mini Excavator?
The three distinct components which make up a mini excavator are:
- Work group. The work group consists of a boom, arm and any attachments.
- House. The house is used for slewing and the house structure contains the operator compartment, engine compartment, hydraulic pump and related components.
- Undercarriage. The undercarriage acts as a major support to the work-group and the house structure.
Many models are designed so that the attachments can be fastened to the machine quickly and with little effort. Some of the most common attachments used are buckets, forks, backhoes and box rakes. A mini excavator can be either wheeled or tracked. The movement of compact lifters is enhanced by a hydraulic fluid powered by hydraulic cylinders.
What are the different types of Mini Excavators?
There are basically two types of compact or mini excavators found in the market:
- Tail Swing Excavators.Conventional compact excavators were all tail swing units that had a rear counterweight to stabilize the vehicle while digging. The rear counterweight extends beyond the tracks when the cab rotates and sometimes makes manoeuvring difficult for the operator.
- Zero Tail Swing Excavators. Zero-tail swing units came into production in the 1990s. As the name suggests, the counterweight does not move outside of the width of the tracks during rotation. Zero-tail swing units are easier for the operator to manoeuvre.
Who are the best Manufacturers of Mini Excavators?
Some of the popular companies involved in the manufacturing of mini excavators are VOLVO, KOMATSU, HITACHI, MESSERSI, Hyundai, IHI, KUBOTA, CAT, YANMAR, Doosan, XCMG, NEW HOLLAND, BOBCAT, CATERPILLAR, GEHL, MUSTANG and LIU GONG.
Used Mini Excavators for Sale
Compared with large excavators, mini excavators have many advantages and special specifications. As they are very compact in construction, they operate well in tight spaces. One of the main advantages of these machines is that they are easily transported. It can be moved using a trailer or pickup truck. Besides, they feature a quick-coupler attachment for quick exchange of any dipper-mounted attachment and ergonomic controls for easy operation. Also compact diggers have a 360-degree swing arc that allows further flexibility on site. It only requires one person to operate the machine.
