    What is an End Finishing Machine? 

    An end finishing machine is one which is used for finishing ends of bars and tubes with various levels of sophistication and automation. There are machines available in the market which have the capability to finish more than 1500 ends per hour. Simultaneous inside-outside deburring, chamfering and facing are possible in end finishing machines. 

    Types of End Finishing Machines 

    End finishing machines are classified into two types based on their application as: Bar end finishing machine and Tube end finishing machine. In the case of tube end finishing machines, the operator slides the tube into the machine collet, and if necessary locks it down and advances a lever to bring the cutter in contact with the tube ends. Some machines are bench top, some are standalone devices while some need a small platform under them to allow proper height for the operator to work on. Bar end finishing machines usually work the same way as tube finishing machines. Some may lack clamp-down and precision sizing capabilities. These machines can also be constructed with stiff brushes instead of cutters to perform the deburring and edge rounding which can be used to remove saw cut burrs. 

    Working with an End Finishing Machine 

    The operator of the end finishing machine places the work piece through the self-centering chuck against an adjustable stop and pulls the starting lever. This action closes the chuck, pivots the stop clear and feeds the work to the rotating cutters. One of the cutter scrapes the outside edge, one cutter scrapes the inner edge and one more cutter scrapes against the flat end to remove any burrs caused by the other rotating cutters. On some of the end finishing machines, the rotating cutter is mounted on the same spindle as an abrasive cut-off saw. In operation, the work piece is sawn to length and then fed into the cutters. Double end machines are also widely available to deburr, chamfer and face both ends of the tubes, rods or pipes at rates of about 2000 work pieces (4000 ends) per hour. Some machines are integrated into transfer lines using magazine, cradle loading, unloading and storage devices.
