BITO

The German firm BITO Lagertechnik manufactures storage bins, order picking systems and materials handling equipment that seeks to rationalize the processes used by warehouses and manufacturing companies.

Leading the way in materials handling and storage since the 1950s

BITO-Lagertechnik Bittmann GmbH is a German firm which operates across Europe, manufacturing innovative storage systems and waste disposal units for warehouses, workshops and factories. The company specializes in delivering automated order picking solutions, allowing clients to make their manufacturing processes as efficient as possible. BITO was founded by Leopold Bittmann in 1845, but was initially a manufacturer of metal accessories used as decorations in the German leather industry. The firm changed dramatically from 1959 when Fritz-August Bittmann took over. He saw a huge opportunity in the production of dynamic storage systems and materials handling, which could allow manufacturers to make huge improvements to their production processes. In the 1970s, the firm took a huge step forward with the introduction of "live storage", and backed this up with the opening of an enormous steel manufacturing facility in 1978 in the firm's home town of Meisenheim. The 1990s and 2000s saw BITO expanding rapidly, opening a host of European subsidiaries, as well as an Indian production centre in 2007 and one in Dubai in 2008. This made BITO storage systems one of the world's market leaders in automated materials handling, advising and improving production process across the world.

Streamlining efficiency for manufacturers and storage firms

The company has divided its production sites into different facilities for steel shelf manufacturing (Meisenheim) and plastic bin production (Lauterecken), as well as a specialist pallet racking centre in India. BITO has also pioneered customer experience strategies, allowing prospective clients to visit their experience centre to see the firm's products in action, and ask questions about how they could be applied to the client's own business operations. BITO also tries to ensure that clients' needs are met by using trial processes so that the right materials handling solution can be found for each challenge. Technicians will also provide a full consultation package, from project planning through to production, delivery and maintenance. The company is also committed to ecological production processes, and offers a wide range of storage products that are made from 100 percent recycled materials, and delivering financial savings to customers.
