Metal Presses - Types & Uses
Presses are a specific form of machine tool that uses the application of pressure to alter the shape of a workpiece in industrial manufacturing processes. They can be mechanical, hydraulic or pneumatic. Metal press machines are the major tool used in sheet metal fabrication, metal extrusion and broaching. Sheet metal processes use hydraulic and mechanical presses to the extent that they are often referred to in general as press working. Power presses vary considerably in their size, the amount of force they can apply and their nature and type. These are points that are well worth bearing in mind when looking to buy used presses on the industrial equipment auction market.
Here are the types of Metal Presses
Trim Press
A trim press is used to remove the excess material, often referred to as gate or flashing, from the items produced by the die casting process. There is often material trapped in the injection port during die casting which later needs to be removed by the use of a trim press.
Eccentric Press
An eccentric press has a motor that drives an eccentric shaft instead of a crankshaft. It makes the shaft stiffer by lessening the effects of bending on the main shaft. The principle resembles that of a crank press. These are generally used for high speed operations.
Straightening Press
Imperfections in manufacturing methods can lead to distortions of production items such as wire, castings, stampings and machined parts. Such distortions are
corrected or eliminated by the use of a straightening press.
Used Metalworking Presses - Price & Availability
Specialised equipment such as presses do not come cheap, so if you are thinking of buying a metal press then you might wish to consider the advantages of buying used. You will find that there is a surprisingly high number of press machines for sale by traders and at industrial auctions offered at bargain prices. Sellers on such used industrial equipment auctions tend to price their merchandise to sell and sell quickly, and consequently the prices can be highly competitive. If you are in need of an older model, you will find a plentiful supply of those, too. The advantage of buying used is not only the better prices for well-maintained machines, though, you can avoid the rapid depreciation in value that comes when buying new equipment.
Schuler, Bliss & Aida - Press Manufacturers
Presses have been used worldwide for decades and there are very many manufacturers of industrial presses. Established suppliers of industrial presses are SCHULER, BLISS, AIDA, EXNER, SMS, WOLFF, REIS and TRUMPF. As most of machinery, manual presses also devaluate their prices and that gives an opportunity to potential buyers to acquire used machine tools and used metalworking machinery. Trademachines.com offers a lot of choices for used metalworking equipment and used metalworking machines.
